After relocating from Sydney in the late 80’s to farm potatoes in the northern rivers, the family’s vacation to Fiji became a turning point, inspiring them to embark on a passionate journey of cultivating and nurturing passionfruit. Over the course of 35 years, their dedication has resulted in a thriving passionfruit operation.
Their commitment to excellence is evident as they constantly experiment with different crops, striving to breed the most delectable and succulent passionfruit varieties possible. During the peak passionfruit season, the family, accompanied by a few enthusiastic neighbours, diligently harvests the ripe fruits for three hours every morning, seven days a week. The fruits are then carefully sorted at their efficient packing shed.
Focusing on local sales with minimal intervention, they take pride in offering freshly picked passionfruit to their community. Unlike the misconception that wrinkled fruit is the pinnacle of ripeness, they have discovered that the fruit is best enjoyed as soon as it gently drops from the vine. While the fruit may continue to wrinkle in the fruit bowl, it’s important to note that supermarket-bought passionfruit is typically at least 12 days old and has lost much of its original freshness.
Furthermore, every piece of fruit is individually hand-weighed before being placed into customers’ bags, ensuring a satisfying weight and abundant pulp.
For those seeking a special treat, the family provides jars of their freshly hand-pulped fruit, eliminating the effort while delivering a flavoursome experience. Alternatively, customers can indulge in one of their expertly crafted “Passionate Flamingos,” a sparkling passionfruit spritzer that perfectly complements a leisurely stroll through the bustling market.
Michael and Isis look forward to welcoming visitors every Saturday morning, eager to share their passion for exceptional passionfruit.
