MARKET NEWS – WHAT’S CAUSING OUR LACK OF BEES?🐝

Bee decline is now a global problem with up to 90 per cent of our crops at risk. There is a worldwide bee shortage due to a phenomenon known as colony collapse disorder, which causes bees to abandon their hives and die.

The exact cause of CCD is not entirely known, but a Harvard study points the finger at the use of the class of pesticides known as neonicotinoids, which are widely used across Australia on fruit, vegetables, nuts and canola.   Concerns over the chemicals has seen them banned in Europe and highly regulated in Canada.   Other factors believed to be behind the decline in bee numbers are climate change, loss of habitat through land clearing, pests, diseases, bacteria, bushfires, floods and electromagnetic fields.
