Smashed on toast, tossed in a salad, blended in a smoothie or as a replacement to butter in any of your favourite cake recipes, whichever way you eat your avocados, the Stewart family from Ardeze farms in the Tallebudgera Valley, are back at your Farmers’ Market in Palm Beach as the Queensland avocado season is in full swing.
The Stewart family has been bringing their avocados to our markets for over 15 years and we couldn’t imagine market life without them and their fabulous products which also include avocado oil soaps and avocado oil.
The Stewart family have been growing avocados on their farm since 1978 and Diane Stewart was born on that farm when it was being run as a dairy.
You’ll find Malcolm Stewart at the Thrower Drive gate entrance into the market.
More potassium than bananas
It’s true! Avocados contain more potassium than bananas, in fact, gram for gram, avocados have 35% more. Potassium is the 3rd most common mineral found in the body. Along with sodium, chloride and magnesium, potassium serves as one of the body’s critical electrolytes.
Electrolytes are vital to our health and maintaining adequate levels of potassium is essential for a number of vital bodily functions and ensuring good health.
Recent research has shown that eating avocados will actually lower blood cholesterol, which is quite the opposite of medical advice given in the 1970’s and 1980’s, when heart disease patients were advised not to eat avocados due to their high fat content!
Avocados have many more health benefits too. They’re fantastic for good skin and hair. They’re very high in fibre. They’re chockers with antioxidants, folate, lutein (good for the eyes) and Vitamin C. However the best thing about avocados is the taste – they’re creamy, tasty, satisfying bundles of mouth-joy.
